Day 1 -

Torp to Liverpool, second year running

Page 2

The successful trip to Yorkshire last year made us want to do the same a year on, but this time in Wales. An extra day was planned so we could meet our friends in Oldham before we got on with it.

Having landed in Beatlepool, we took a bus to Albert`s Dock, unlike last year. We headed for "The Raven" on Alberts windy waterfront. We wanted to have another taste of the "Farmer`s Platter". They had made changes to it, but it was still a revelation, and the Guinness went well with it!

The mistake of the day was to book a room at the budget hotel Formule 1. The room was basic but clean and quite OK, but the clientele was far beyond what we could wish for. A bunch of spanish youth were dancing, singing, shouting and knocking on doors all night. - Rafael! Rafael, is that you??? Sevilla, oh oh oh... During the night we heard threats over the tannoy that they ought to keep quiet or be evicted. Alas, to no avail...

But before we called it a night, we paraded and filandered around Liverpool City Centre, including the Cavern Quarter. A brisk walk to the cathedral brought us to a part of town we`d never seen, and our supper took us back to Lime Street, as we ate in "The Crown". My first time, after having passed the establishement some six or seven times in the past, not having the time for a visit. Bangers and mash in the back room, really tasty and worth a repeat.

The Missus had been there with colleagues quite recently, and I thank her for bringing me `round!

If you think we don`t have many photographs from this "Day One", the reason is one of our cameras were stolen a few days later, some 200 photos going down the drain...

Sorry, but we couldn`t find Tom Jones anywhere... though in retrospect, we didn`t look very hard!

Our second use of the former Speke Airport... (but the photo is from last year - don`t tell anyone!)

A trot around town led to these dolpins on George`s Square.

Funny fountain in Liverpool - we found one just like it in Caernarvon!

The missus invited me to dine at her old haunting ground...

...some people can`t help but suck the white stick...

Ok, but where`s the crannie?

Another church tower, and guess who`s on 10 photos on this page...

...and we went straight to "The Raven" for a "Farmer`s Platter".

...oh, Dertee Maggie Mae, they are teyken her ewey..

At first glance it looked like Lime Street Station was closing down...

...then we sat on a sofa without a sister or two...

...or pose in front of cathedrals.

Inger`s new purple workhabit comes in handy...

No, I don`t think this is 47 million years old...
